It was about time for a live solo clarinet album. No accompaniment, no overdubs, no edits, no electronics, just the clarinet. Daring to pay an homage to both Mustafa Kandıralı and Steve Lacy in my own way. I intend to tap into what their voice mean to me now, rather than trying to proof or showcase their massive influences on me as a horn player. And of course I cannot not mention the heavyweight repertoire of solo clarinet music by the likes of Stravinsky, Boulez, Isang Yun and many others, under which I choose to feel warm and cozy as if it’s a fuzzy blanket, rather than a crushing rock. After recording more than 60 albums, It’s about time to for me to say something about how this all connects for me. How the clarinet has paved the path for me to find my thoughts, questions and refuge.
