Music from an imaginary land AVA Trio
"She stretches from the mountain ridge to the sea. Countless rivers gash through her yellowing plains. Barren and wild is the land; yet her sons remain to be thankful and loyal. They are indeed of the simple, but elegant kind."
Taking inspiration from the ancient as well as the current Mediterranean cultures, blending the folk musics with an avant-garde flair, AVA is an intercontinental project (IT,TR,IR), based in the Netherlands. They invite you on an ethnomusicological expedition to the imaginary land and beyond with this new Trytone release consisting of their original compositions.
|Giuseppe Doronzo (IT) baritone sax
Esat Ekincioglu (TR) double bass
Pouriya Jaberi (IR) daf, jivar
ILinden is traditional music in a different way – in this recording, freedom is celebrated…
Or, as Thelonious Monk said: “We all play folk music“
The songs are taken from the collection “Onder de Groene Linde” that was published in 2008, referring to Ate Doornbosch’s program at the Dutch radio from 1957 to 1993. Ate traveled the Netherlands with his tape recorder, recording people who still knew the old songs.

Herman te Loo, Jazzflits

Ken Vos, Jazzism
“An irresistible impulse, a libertarian breath, real risk taking…”
“…works with a modern vocabulary on improvisation themes, creates moods in a highly concentrated form, makes sequences comprehensible, lets the listener be part of the creation of the music pieces, doesn’t present a final version but rather the creative process itself, shows the becoming, and lets the difficulty of such an endeavour swing with the music."
